Welcome to The Net Insider!

This will be the last issue for this year. I want to start of by thanking you for being a subscriber.

My only hope is that you get something out of this information and take action. You have to realize that without marketing, your business goes nowhere. The flip side is that once you understand marketing you can go to any program, business opportunity or product and immediately start making money with it.

By being a subscriber to this newsletter you have demonstrated that you are serious about learning Internet marketing and building a business; you are a leader. You have seperated yourself from the "masses" who quit this industry because they "couldn't figure it out" or cry "it doesn't work."

I'm here to tell you it does work. It works for me, and many other people. I give you tips and resources and it's up to you to do the marketing. I'm not going to sell you a course and slap the word "secret" on it hoping you'll buy it. I'm not going to give you a list of worthless products with my affiliate link in it just so I can sell a product. That is what amateurs do, and i'm no amateur. I stand by everything that I recommend.

And as always, do your on research and track your marketing for best results.

How to Not Waste Your Money on Internet Marketing Courses

I'm sure you've seen the latest and greatest Internet marketing courses/tactics- Day Job Killer, Google Assasin, Newbie Cash Machine,etc...

There isn't a product on the market that you can buy that will give you "instant" success. Some people chase after product after product hoping that the next one will reveal the "secret" to making money on the net.

What you then end up with is a lot of products sitting in a storage bin in your garage or a bunch of e-books cluttering up your computer. And  not a dime added to your bottom line.

Before you buy that next product, ask yourself:
  • Do I really need it?
  • Is it in my business plan to do this particular marketing method?
  • How will this product help me in my business?
  • Is this a product I can put to use today?
  • Am I buying the product hoping that it will reveal secrets that will solve all my marketing problems? (hopefully the answer is "no")

Remember not to be overly influenced by the fancy screen shots of how much money they made using xyz product, because screen shots can be faked. Not only that, but they only show you part of the equation- the part that made money; but not the investment or money it took to make that money.

When you see testimonials, take it into consideration that some of them are solicited; most people who give a testimonial have their website underneath, so these people are benefitting by giving a testimonial.

There's nothing wrong with that per se, but as a potential consumer of that product, you must keep that in mind when using testimonials solely as the criteria in choosing a product.

You must take a balanced approach and take everything into consideration.

Lastly, you want to do a search for people who have actually bought that product. The best way to do a search is in the Internet marketing forums.

You can also Google the product name in a search engine, but you must keep in mind that the Internet is full of affiliates (people who promote products in exchange of earning a commission from its sale); more often than not, you'll land on an affiliate's website which has only "glowing" reviews of products in hopes that you buy from them; not only that, but many affiliates do not own the products that they promote.

That is why the people on Internet marketing forums like the warrior forum, can give you a much more balanced view of the product because they have bought it and have nothing to gain by giving you the pros or cons of it; also affiliate links are not allowed in the body of their posts on most forums. This deters most afiiliates from posting "self-serving" links.

After you've done your research and you believe this is a product that can realistically help you in your business now, then buy it.

The Skinny on Free Advertising

I'm a cheapie, I like to do only the free marketing techniques that will give me the best results and or are the best use of my time; I'm also realistic, so I know what kind of results to expect. The problem some people face when they do the free marketing techniques are:
  • They have un-realistic expectations
  • Don't understand that their time is of value, and not everything is worth their time
  • Don't look at the results they're getting; don't use tracking

For every marketing method and technique, tactic, out there, there are what I like to call the "rules of engagement"; in other words, if you're going to take on a marketing technique you have to know what it takes to make it work.

The best free advertising that will go the distance for you, are articles; it establishes your credibility, and they can get picked up by the search engines if you have your keywords in them.

You must know that article marketing can be a slow method, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. If you don't like writing, outsource it on a freelance network (elance, guru.com etc); The U.S. dollar goes pretty far in some countries.

Other free methods are blogging, press releases, and Squidoo. I can't think of one top internet marketer at the top of my head that doesn't have a blog. Mike Filsaime, Stephen Pierce, Willy Crawford, Sterling Valentine, Armand Morin, Jim Edwards, Daegan Smith, Mike Cheney all have blogs and the list goes on.

If you do free online classifieds you must make sure your ad is on a site that gets lots of traffic, and or gets picked up by the search engines (high page rank); the reason being is that if you have keywords in your ads, they can get picked up in the search engines.

You must track and make sure your ad is getting clicks. If it's not, you need to tweak your ad, change categories or find a website that gets more traffic.

In my humble opinion, I would not be doing free classifieds, unless I had some of the other more effective methods in place; classifieds, however, can get you leads/prospects for your business.

Traffic Exchanges-What You Should Know

Traffic Exchanges provide a service that allows you to get your website shown in its network and in exchange you view other people's websites. Some popular exchanges are Traffic Swarm, Dragon Surf, and I love Hits.

When using this method, it's best to use a splash page (you can put a tracking link in the link itself) or a lead capture page.

Traffic exchanges are good for building your list, i.e.get people to opt-in into your marketing funnel. Once you get people in your system you can market your opportunity, or an affiliate product or anything else for that matter.

Give people a reason to stop surfing and look at your offer. When you're surfing, notice what kinds of websites you pay attention to; that will be your biggest clue as to what kind of splash page/lead capture page you should do.

Here's an example of a splash page: Dragon Surf Splash Page

Splash Pages

If you don't know how to make a splash page, you're not off the hook! Here are some Splash Page Resources:

Splash Page Maker - $10/mo and it guides you through the steps of designing one. They also host it for you.

Splash Builders – Appx $20 and they will build you a custom one, but they do not host it. You'll have to use a hosting company like Host Gator or Third Sphere or any other reputable company to host it for you.

Affiliate Funnel –This helps you build your list, while providing you with splash pages to use. You can also promote your other programs with this service. It's appx $9/mo.

The best way to use this system is to attach your autoresponder service (getresponse, aweber, etc) to the splash page you want to use. This way you are building your list on your system, not theirs. This is one of the rare programs that lets you do this.

Lead Capture Pages

Instant Squeeze Page Generator- they have lead capture pages you can use to help you build your list. The free version of this service has e-books that are used to entice people to opt into your system.

The paid version of this service has e-books that those who opt in into your system have to pay for; you can make money on the e-books, while building your list at the same time. To use this service you must have an autoresponder service, like
Get Response, Aweber, or something similiar.

Bring in the Traffic Using Web 2.0

In last's month's newsletter, I turned you on to a resource brought to my attention by the great Diane Hochman-Michelle Macphearson's Social Media Daily.

This is
a comprehensive guide to using social networking/social bookmarking sites to get traffic to your website, blog, etc; if you used even 1/20th of what was in there, then you saw some traffic to your sites.

The key is to not just submit your content to these sites, but be an active member. Put up your picture, do a profile and submit content other than just yours. This is in reference to sites like Digg, Newsvine where community members vote content up or down.

If you are unfamiliar with web 2.0, here is just a basic definition: Using the power of people and networking sites on the web to express opinions and feelings; opinions and feelings can be expressed through content (articles, blogs etc).

Are You Building Your List?

Your goal is to build a list of people to market to. It's that simple. Once you get people to opt-in into your system, you can market to them indefinitely or until they opt out. This is why you need a form on your website to capture your visitors names and emails; or you can use a pop up/pop over/pop under/exit pop up...I think I got them all :-)

If you still don't see the value in building a list, let me just break it down like this:
  • Most people who come to your sales page or offer page the first time won't buy.
  • It can take a lot of visitors coming to your website before someone buys your product or opts in into your system.
  • A person may have to be exposed to your offer several times before deciding to buy it.

I'm sure you've heard all this before. This is why you need to capture your visitor's information in one way or another. You can entice them with a free report, e-book, course, etc. Once you got them in your system, you can follow up with them and continue marketing to them.

An alternative to doing this is to offer a free downloadable ebook on your website that has your website links in it. That way they can return to your website if your ebook is compelling enough to make them want to come back.

ADVANCED INTERNET MARKETERS

If you have your own website (not a replicated one) or you're getting ready to build one, you should check out Nitty Gritty Marketing. This on-going training program will benefit you if you:
  • Already you know how to drive traffic to your website, but your traffic is not converting
  • Are action-oriented and not just a knowledge-collector (my made up term)
You'll learn about:

  • Testing, and tracking so you'll know why people aren't buying your product or service (more often than not it's your website)

  • Focusing on your customer value-get the same amount of visitors to spend more per visit. This is done by one time offers (OTO), cross sells, upsells,  etc…

This is a membership site and so far all the information that is covered is geared only for those who have a website that they can control and/or are thinking about building one. If you have your own product, it's even better;

These techniques are really advanced and unless you are ready to implement these techniques in your business or on your website, you will not get the most from it.

I have to admit that some of these techniques are really mind-blowing. A lot of internet gurus don't do even half the stuff Jermaine Griggs, (the guy behind nitty gritty marketing) does.

Here's a little bit about Jermaine About Jermaine Griggs

-----------------------------------------

Let me just leave you with these final tips:

  • Before the start of the new year, have your business plan/marketing plan in place
  • Marketing should be fun, or at least enjoyable on some level; it should not a chore or something that you dread doing
  • When you're marketing, notice your results; Is it worth your time? Are you doing it correctly or to the best of your ability?
  • If you don't market your business, you won't have one very long (I'm sorry it's negative, but it's true)
  • Free marketing techniques are fine as long as you know that it's worth your time and effort...and you have realistic expectations on the outcome
If you don't value your time, you'll tend to waste a lot of it doing meaningless things.
